Smaug Meetings

We will be meeting on Thursday instead of Monday. Please check on the email list or Facebook about that.

Our meetings will now be held at the Asana teahouse in downtown Santa Cruz, at 103 Lincoln St, between Pacific Ave and Todal Fitness. Taqueria Vallarta is around the corner and a block down Pacific, at 1101 Pacific.

An exception will be Wednesday, 30 December, when we will have a meeting instead of the following day, New Year's Eve.

The meeting time is now 7:30 pm. Some people may wish to show up earlier, and that's fine, but bring your own extension cord if you need one!

Note: Our old meeting location - Tiny's - reopened on 6/15 as an IHOP

We have sometimes used the new IHOP as a meeting place. Their wi-fi signal isn't very good, so far, so we are back downtown for the time being.

Writing about Technology Niche

Submitted by flaneur on Thursday, May 21, 2009 - 01:50

Writing articles or providing essay writing copies about technology, IT and computers has long been supplied by several publishing companies. However, writing about computer gadgets and the latest technology has also taken the spotlight thru online publishing.

We see thousands of IT related websites and blogs that make investment out of this highly profitable niche. Even if you are an essay writer or an article writer, it doesn't necessarily mean that writing about gadgets, IT news, and technological advancement would be a piece of cake.

However, if you are interested about starting a blog or site that would deal about this topic, here are some useful tips that would help you write about this subject even if you haven't touched this field of industry before.

1. Get updated.

This would definitely be the first thing that would enter in mind once you have decided to write about IT topics. However, this may not be easy to accomplish, simply because there are too many updates that will confuse you and definitely waste your time. Remember that there are thousands of IT related sites and they too have some information to share. How to deal with this? Don't overwhelm yourself with all these information begging for your attention. Pick at least 4 to 8 authority sites about Technology, Computers and Gadgets, IT and Internet Industry. What I could suggest is go and visit Alexa Top Sites and visit several IT related sites that made the list, this way you'll get updates to the most visited websites and that means that you'll get updated with the "hottest" news and deals without getting drowned with all these bulge of information.

2. Get Google Alerts

This will make your life easy. Subscribe to the IT sites you've chosen and let Google Alerts feed you with their content. No need to visit each site everyday. You'll only have to check your mail or visit your Google Reader to see if there's any update.

3. Subscribe to Relevant Blogs.

This way you are starting to merge yourself in the IT community. Set up yourself a Twitter account, get online presence by following relevant blogs, (those blogs you think would be relevant about your niche) and provide comments on their blogs once in a while. Most bloggers create a community and sometimes it is easier to get updates once you are inside the bloggers' ring of community.

4. Attend to Launchings, Events and Openings.

Be updated with IT related Events, book releases, launchings whenever possible. This will make it more like an exclusive scoop.
